Hi! I'm Grace and I've been learning model making for five years in education, through out my experience I've learnt a range of techniques including, action props, set design, CAD, machinery, textures and, mould making.
Now a graduate I'm excited to continue my skills into new experiences, I would say I'm enthusiastic, quick learner, hard working and ready for new opportunities!
While at school I’ve secured 7 GCSE (A-C) and a B-tech level 2 distinction in engineering, while at Brooklands college during 2015-17 I achieved two awards for my Lathe work making a Tap & Die that was given to me on behalf of the recognition from Mclaren.
Moving on to Kingston college I was awarded a triple Distinction* for my Level 3 3D design which later on helped me get an unconditional on to the model design course at the University of Hertfordshire to which I will be graduating with an BA (Hons) Model Design (Model Effects).
While at Kingston College we did work experiance for a local theatre, they wanted to tell a story from WW1 of Kingston and asked us to make a 1:1 scale of a Sopwith Camel aircraft and a mechanical corcidile toy, this opportunity was what inspried me to make models.
second year of university I had the opportunity to work on Disney's sequal Disenchanted. I worked as a greens team member, this role INCLUDED the desing and arrangement of foe flowers/vines, set dressing and striking.
For this project i created a proposal for Aardman studios creating a lighthouse for an upcoming Nick Park and Peter Lord film, I researched all the movies by them picking out the style and design of the movies, I also looking into the function and design of a lighthouse and how the Fresnel lens moves.
I did a lot of mock-ups on Rhino and then using three blocks of Chemi-wood as the body, I turned to a 1º taper, then created a personalised brick pattern of Rhino for each block to wall filler the body to create the brick stencil and texture. All the other fine detailing was done by hand, a laser cutter, or a 3D printer. Always looking back on reference photos and keeping to context I finished it with a rustic/worn texture and individually painting bricks using acrylic paint.
find me at the University of Hertfordshire 23rd of May - 3rd of June and at New Blades Thursday 15th June 10am - 10pm at the Holborn Studios, where ill be displaying my models and there to chat !
